Everyone knows that America is trying to overthrow many regimes using social media. If China gets into a mess, with hateful rumors everywhere, but the state doesn’t have control over it, the whole country will gets into trouble, which is very bad for the stability of world economy.

When the dishonest and biased medias like New York Times disappear.

Most Chinese are not well educated and very easy to be instigated by anything provocative.

Everyone knows that America is trying to overthrow many regimes using social media. If China gets into a mess, with hateful rumors everywhere, but the state doesn’t have control over it, the whole country will gets into trouble, which is very bad for the stability of world economy.

Using VPN is not illegal in China, but being affordable to buy a VPN is already luxurious for most Chinese, and the government knows that most people using VPN do have the need(employees in international companies, international students etc). Even the government itself needs to access some blocked websites(sometimes you see state media quoting some tweets)

So the GFW is actually what we called “intelligence tax“ to filter out uneducated people from afftecting the politics. It’s the same idea like a century ago in America only people who own properties can vote.

And surprisingly it’s working very effectively.

When will it disappear? It’s clear that when most Chinese are well educated, living a proper life and have the ability of critical thinking, there will be no need for the GFW. My estimate is about 2025, when millenials start to take control of most of the economics and government officials.
