Over the years the water outside the GFW has been raised so high that once gone, it could flood the whole system. There already have been a lot of leaks as more and more young highly educated Chinese needs to connect to the outside world to do their job and more and more information is overwhelming the online censorship system. If the GFW is completely down for a month, there would be riots on the street. The whole system in China is base on the ignorance of the majority. They are the ones who are willing to sacrifice for this system without a second thought. because they actually believe in it. But once the wall is down and they found out that they have been believing in is a lie for their whole life, they are also the ones who are willing to go against bullets to release their anger because they have nothing else to lose. So it is safe to say, the Chinese Fascism government would never willingly drop the wall to see riots in front of their mansions.

Even when the commie government is gone, it is very likely that their successor will keep the wall at least for a while longer to ensure their power is secure. Most of the Chinese population have already got so used to the GFW (including frequent VPN users) that they wouldn’t even notice the difference.

I read some other answers to this question. I don’t believe that the GFW will be lifted the same way as the Comics Code Authority, because in terms of the ratio of the local population affected by a policy and the importance it present to the whole local political system, the Comics Code Authority is nothing compares to the GFW.
